 Swing Bed

We offer post acute rehab and medical services to Medicare patients. Our swing bed program gives the patients who qualify a choice of swing bed versus the nursing home. The patient must meet certain requirements including a three night inpatient stay, have Medicare as their primary insurer, and the hospital census must allow for the addition of a swing bed patient. The swing bed unit is actually the patient’s hospital room.  There may be a chance that the patient is moved to a room on the Pediatric or West Unit.

The hospital staff cares for the patient, from the nurse, to the physician, to the therapists. We use a hospitalist model which provides medical expertise in your care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, the MDS Coordinator serves as the patient advocate of swing bed patients. We have a licensed dietitian who oversees your dietary needs. Our rehab team includes physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists. The physical therapist provides leadership for the rehab team. Another member of the swing bed team is our social worker. The social worker provides psychological care as well as discharge planning. Our activities director designs an activity schedule with the patient’s personal choices in mind.  The hospital is proud to provide the service of rehabilitation to our community.
